About Schrijfmaatje
How we handle your details
Schrijfmaatje works with real addresses of real people, and we treat them with care. Not because a rule says we must, but because we think that's simply how it should be. On this page we explain, in plain words, what we keep, what we use it for, who gets to see it and how you can step away again. Read whatever you want to know and skip the rest.
What do we keep?
Really very little, and only what we genuinely need to get the post delivered. That's the name and address of whoever signs up for post, or of whoever gives a return address with a card so the other person can write back. If you give us an email address as well, we keep that too, but only if you fill it in yourself. And of course we keep the cards and replies that go through us, because we copy those out by hand and send them on.
And that's where it ends. We don't build a profile of you, we don't follow you around the web, and we use no tracking cookies or ad trackers. You don't have to create an account anywhere or remember a password either. What you don't give us, we don't have.
What do we use it for?
Really for just one thing: making sure a card or a letter reaches the right address, and the right person. That's what your address is for, and nothing else. We don't use it to sell you anything or to come knocking.
An email address we only use for the handful of messages we promise you. Think of the note explaining how to confirm your address, or one quick word that your card is in the post. After that you won't hear from us again. We send no adverts and no newsletter, and we never email you out of the blue about something else.
Who sees your details?
Only us, the small team behind Schrijfmaatje. We read every message ourselves, by hand, before it travels on. But we share your address with no one, not even with the person on the other side. The writer and the recipient of a card never get to see each other's name or address, however often you write back and forth. All the post runs through us, precisely so both sides stay anonymous.
We don't sell your details, and we don't pass them on to anyone else. The one exception is very down to earth: to send an email we work with an email service, and it only sees the email address that one message has to go to. Your address and your cards never pass through there. Beyond that, nothing leaves the building.
How long do we keep it?
As long as you take part, and no longer. The moment you unsubscribe, the post stops straight away and we no longer use your address. Would you like us to remove your details from our system altogether? Just ask, and we'll do that for you. You don't have to give a reason, and you can always sign up again later.
How do you stop, or ask a question?
You can stop whenever you like. To unsubscribe, go to the unsubscribe page with your postcode, your house number and your account code. If that doesn't work, you've lost a code, or you'd like to ask something else or have your details removed, just send a note to Schrijfmaatje, Vuurdoornstraat 9B, 8924 AT Leeuwarden or email info@schrijfmaatje.nl. We're small and read everything ourselves, so you'll always reach a real person.
Schrijfmaatje is an initiative of e-powerment. If you're not happy with how we handle your details, and we can't sort it out together, you can always report it to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
